SENA (The National Training Service) is responsible for fulfilling the function that corresponds to the State, of investing in the social and technical development of the Colombian workers by offering and implementing a comprehensive professional training for the incorporation and development of people in productive activities that contribute to the country’s social, economic and technological development . SENA is a University-type institution in which students  go through programs that prepare them with real-life skills in a vocation, like welding, Administration, Agriculture, Architecture, Construction, Design,Electronics, Mechanics and Technology.
If you join the SENA program you will be teaching university -aged students (18-24 years old)

  • Starting date: February 2017, April 2017 and June 2017 with 2 weeks orientation upon your arrival in Bogota;
  • Stipend to cover basic living expenses: COP 1.500.000;
  • Location: Cities according to availability


  • English level: Native or C1 certificate (if you are not a native speaker you will have to take a placement test during the application process )
  • For Latin American applicants: 10  years living in an English speaking country.
  • Aged 21-50
  • Teaching experience: At least 6 months
  • Education: Must be a professional graduated with Bachelor of Arts or an equivalent higher education degree
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, teaching skills, culturally adaptable, fast learner

Not Included:

  • Flights to/from Colombia
  • Additional International Medical and Accident Insurance
  • Meals after orientation
  • Accommodation after the first 6 weeks of the program

What’s Included in the Program:

  • Full time volunteer teaching placement in Colombia
  • Monthly stipend* to cover living expenses: 1,500,000 Pesos per month (*except for the first month, as accommodation is included so the stipend will be around 1,000,000)
  • Completion bonus of 500,000 Pesos after finishing the program
  • 2-week orientation upon arrival, including accommodation and meals
  • In-country support from a local coordinator
  • 24/7 Emergency Line
  • Domestic flight to placement city
  • Accommodation during orientation and the first month of placement is included in shared rooms (most likely in a hostel). Housing is not provided after first month, so the stipend is meant cover rent as well.
  • Colombian national health insurance (EPS)


The Ministry of Education English Teaching Program is a FREE program. However, there is a $400 refundable deposit that participants will have to pay once you have passed the selection process. This deposit will be fully returned to participants upon completion of the teaching period. This deposit is your official commitment to participating in the program and is non refundable if you cancel or withdraw from the program at any time, for any reason.
